Some are born into war, others are built by it. Necron 99 is the rare story of both. A machine without mercy or memory, wandering the wastelands as Blackwolf’s most deadly and feared assassin. He was created by Blackwolf using ancient, lost technology from humanity’s past. This enigma became a silent and obedient killer, one who would listen to orders without question. Many soldiers in those distant corners of the world lacked the physical or mental strength to carry out the tyrant of Scortch’s most dangerous missions. But Necron came to his side time and time again, mercilessly killing fairies and elves along the outer edges of Montagar before taking on his most important mission of all: to kill Avatar and his companions before they could unite and lead a campaign into Scortch to foil his plans and stop the growing army marching toward Montagar. After a long journey into the heart of the Good City, Necron 99 climbs to the top of the royal tower and assassinates Princess Elinore’s father, the Fairy King. Not long after, he is damaged by one of Avatar’s powerful spells, and now, separated from Blackwolf’s influence, Avatar successfully repairs him and restores him to his former self before the corruption. From that point on, he was known as Peace, a loyal, noble warrior for Avatar and his companions, one willing to sacrifice himself for the good of humanity. Only then was it clear that what Avatar had seen in the red killer was true: Peace was not a machine, but a soul worthy of redemption. Featured on this Wizards cap, Necron 99 / Peace remains one of the most powerful and often overlooked symbols of redemption within the world of Wizards (1977), his mysterious life under Blackwolf still left largely to the imagination.
