The legendary wizard Avatar was one of the fabled twin sons of Queen Delia, ruler of Montagar. He was born into an age of rebirth and great renewal, after a nuclear war had sent it into despair many years before. His twin brother, Blackwolf, was opposite him in every way. Avatar represents peace, balance, kindness, and the preservation of the natural world. While Blackwolf stands for war, corruption, hatred, and the destructive machinery of mankind’s forgotten past. Early on in his life, Avatar defeated Blackwolf in epic combat and forced him out of Montagar, to the far and shadowy edges of the earth. From then on, he would help rule and watch over the great kingdom, spreading the knowledge he had learned before his mother passed on to the elders and the people of Montagar. He taught magic and had many great apprentices, but I’m sure none he loved more than the majestic Princess Elinore, who, despite her energetic and rebellious charm, still struggled to get the old Avatar out of his bed. At that age, the wizard thought the time for wars was over, or if there were to be any wars, he would rather sleep through them than join the front line. But luckily for the people of Montagar and the world as a whole, Elinore, Weehawk, and the fellowship convinced him to set out on a quest to stop Blackwolf for good. His humor, mystery, power, and one of the most iconic endings in cult animation history have made Avatar one of the most recognizable characters from the film Wizards (1977). We’re honored to work alongside Bakshi Productions in bringing this legendary collection to life, reintroducing the world of Wizards to a new generation through art, fashion, and culture.
